Ann Michael Netzel 1933- 2012 Ann Michael (nee Turner) Netzel, age 79, of Roxborough, PA joined Our Heavenly Father on Friday, May 25, 2012. She was born May 8, 1933 to Susanna M. Stevens and Thomas J. Turner. She, along with her sister Margaret, and two brothers; Thomas and Christopher, grew up in the neighborhood “Swampoodle”, Philadelphia, PA. The family was members of St. Columba Roman Catholic Parish. Ann graduated from J.W. Hallahan High School in the class of 1951. Ann resided in Roxborough, 1964 thru 1990 raising her children John, Michele, Christopher, Terence, Joseph, Paul, and Amelia. During this time she became actively involved in her community as the founder and President of the Valley View Civic Association; President of the 21st Ward Council Community Council; the President of the Home and School Association for W.B. Saul High School, and The Fourth of July Fireworks committee, her accomplishments were many. Ann’s love of community service led her to be the Independent candidate as a Pennsylvania State Representative in the mid 1970’s. She was employed by: Daniel Sherman Esquire; Roxborough Memorial Hospital as a ward clerk; for Dr. Nicholas Grego as a medical secretary; Senator Joseph M. Rocks as an administrative assistant, and Assistant to nursing director at The Women’s Medical College of PA. Ann was honored as a recipient of the WCAU Spirit of Philadelphia Award, as well as The Woman of The Year Award by 21st Ward Community Council in 1980. Ann had a gregarious nature and avid interest for the news. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. She is dearly loved and will be missed by her children and their respective spouses: John (Theresa), Michele (Eric), Chris (Mary Jean), Terry (Regina), Joe, Paul (Vicki), and Ami. She will be remembered as Grammie to her 28 grandchildren, and Great-Grammie to her 24 great-grandchildren. Services include open visitation with Family and friends on Friday, June 15, 2012 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 815 Cathedral Road in Andorra, PA at 10:30am, and Followed by Celebration Memorial Funeral Mass at 11:30.
